mannered, educated, quiet, and respectful American you will ever meet. I have
always had an affinity and appreciation for Asian culture and its wonderful
contributions to society. As a young soldier, stationed in Korea, I spent my
idle time photographing in Buddhist hill temples. I have a deep respect for
Buddhist and Shinto traditions, and I wish to learn more about these fascinating
and peaceful religions. I have found that the contented time in my life was
sitting on a tatami mat, inside a Buddhist temple, in Kyoto. The sound of a
gentle fall rain mixed with chanting of a monk's prayers was one of the most
relaxing experiences I have had. I look forward to returning to Kyoto this fall
to photograph the fall colors, and to seek relaxation in quiet contemplation.
